Live translation in Zoom, without putting a bot in the meeting
At an online event the voices are already inside the organiser’s computer. SCAPTION listens to that audio, so there is no integration to approve and no stranger on the call.

How do you translate a Zoom meeting without a bot?
By listening to the audio already playing on the host’s computer instead of adding anything to the call. It is the same signal the attendees hear, there is nothing to install inside the platform, and it works identically in Zoom, Teams, Meet and Webex because the capture cannot tell which application made the sound.
What usually goes unsolved in a multilingual meeting
- A native caption bar translates for each viewer only with a paid add-on or a higher plan on the host’s account, and only into the platform’s own language list.
- A tool installed inside the platform goes through IT, and that takes longer than the event.
- In a hybrid event, the people in the room see nothing of what is happening in the call.
- And when it ends there are no minutes, only a recording somebody will have to watch in full.
Setting it up
Open SCAPTION on the same computer you are following the meeting from
No second machine needed.
Pick "this computer’s audio" as the source
The system asks once for permission and that is it. You keep hearing the meeting normally.
Put the room link in the Zoom chat
Each attendee opens it and picks a language, up to 12 at once from a catalogue of 58.
If you also want Zoom’s own caption bar
SCAPTION pushes each finished line to it, tested against a real Zoom meeting. The host enables the caption API token, then copies it from Show Captions → Set up manual captioner. It works on free accounts too: we checked on 2026-09-12.
And if the event is hybrid, the room sees it too
The same session goes out over NDI to your switcher or over HDMI to the venue screen.
What people on the call get
Their own language, chosen by them
They open the link and pick. It does not depend on what the host configured.
They can listen to it
The browser reads the translation aloud.
Questions and votes
From the same link, without leaving the call.
Nothing to install
No app, no account, no sign-up.
Where it shows
There is no integration to approve
We listen to the computer’s audio, so there is no application installed inside the platform at all.
It works for any platform
Zoom, Teams, Meet, Webex and whatever comes next: the mechanism is the same.
It does not mute your meeting
The capture does not stop you hearing the thing you are captioning.
The audience chooses, with no licence on the host
Each attendee picks a language on their own phone, with no add-on to buy on the meeting platform.
Event Pro
Translation into all 58 languages. One microphone is enough for a call, because the computer’s audio arrives on a single channel.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install a Zoom app?
No. SCAPTION does not join the meeting: it listens to your own computer’s audio. If you also want Zoom’s native caption bar, the host enables the caption API token in their settings and copies it. There is no Marketplace review and nothing to install.
Does it work on a free Zoom account?
Zoom offers the manual-captioner token on free accounts too: we checked on 2026-09-12, contrary to what Zoom’s own help pages say. And the link-and-browser route, which is the main one, works either way.
How many languages at once?
Up to 12 reading languages at a time per event, from a catalogue of 58, and each attendee picks their own on their own phone.
What about a hybrid event?
One session serves both audiences at once: people on the call through the link, people in the room through the screen or their own phone.
