Frequently asked questions

What exactly comes out of SCAPTION?
A 1080p NDI source with true alpha transparency — your switcher composites it like any lower-third graphic. No NDI gear? Use the chroma-key HDMI output instead. There is no burn-in and no browser overlay.
How fast are the captions?
Translated captions reach the venue screen in under two seconds, glass-to-glass. The operator can correct any word in the Co-Pilot before it is shown, and editing never stalls the feed.
Which languages are supported?
Transcription and translation across 24 languages, with an auto-detect source option and code-switching (multiple languages in one talk). Set any source→target pair per session.
Do I have to bring my own Deepgram / DeepL keys?
No. Speech-to-text (Deepgram nova-3) and translation (DeepL) are relayed through SCAPTION’s backend, so the provider keys never ship inside the app and usage is metered server-side. It’s all included in your plan.
Does the venue feed depend on the internet?
The caption engine and NDI output run locally on your machine. The internet only carries audio and text to the relay — your show isn’t hostage to a browser tab. If the connection drops, the audience output fades to transparent, never a frozen caption or error card.
What happens if I hit a plan limit mid-event?
Nothing on screen. Hitting a limit warns and auto-bills overage — a live session is never interrupted. Entitlement is only re-checked between events.
My NDI source isn’t showing up in vMix. Why?
The usual cause is Windows’ “Public” network profile, which blocks inbound NDI mDNS discovery for every app on the machine. SCAPTION detects this and warns you, and always shows its own source name + ip:port so you can add it manually in vMix / TriCaster.
What does the free trial include?
Three hours of full-featured captioning and translation, valid for 14 days, no card required — enough to prove it on a real event before you pay.
Is the installer signed?
Not yet — Windows SmartScreen may warn on first run. Choose More info → Run anyway. A code-signing certificate is in progress.

System requirements

Operating systemWindows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit. Not available for macOS or Linux.
ProcessorQuad-core Intel Core i5 / AMD Ryzen 5 or better. Real-time audio + NDI encode benefit from more cores.
Memory8 GB RAM minimum, 16 GB recommended for large shows and multi-output.
GraphicsAny GPU with current drivers — captions render 1080p; no discrete GPU required.
NetworkStable broadband. Audio and transcript stream to SCAPTION’s relay; the NDI/HDMI output stays local. Wired Ethernet recommended at the venue.
NDINDI 6 runtime on the LAN. mDNS discovery is blocked on Windows’ “Public” network profile — set the venue network to “Private”, or add the source by name + ip:port.
Audio inputAny WDM audio device: USB interface, Dante Virtual Soundcard, VB-Audio Cable, or a hardware capture card.
OutputAlpha NDI over the LAN into vMix / TriCaster / OBS, or chroma-key HDMI to a switcher when there’s no NDI gear.
