How to Caption Teams, Google Meet and Webex with SCAPTION

Live captions for an online meeting, with no bot in the call: SCAPTION listens to the sound your computer plays. It works the same way for Teams, Google Meet and Webex. Five steps, about ten minutes.

Also in: Español · Français · Deutsch · Português · Italiano

SCAPTION has not tested Teams, Meet and Webex ourselves. These steps follow the maker's own documentation, and menu names can change between versions.

  5. 5Avoid double captions
1

Choose your plan

To translate (for example French speech into English captions) you need the Event Pro plan. Buy it as a single-event pass for one event, or as a monthly plan if you caption regularly. The Accessibility plan gives you the same NDI output but transcribes only, with translation switched off.

Let SCAPTION listen to the meeting

  1. Open SCAPTION on the computer that is in the meeting.
  2. In the Audio card, choose This computer's audio.
  3. If your computer asks to share, accept it and tick Share system audio. On a Mac, allow SCAPTION under Screen & System Audio Recording.
3

Choose the languages

  1. In Languages, set the Spoken language, and in The venue screen shows pick the caption language, for example French to English.
4

Show the captions

  1. Give your audience the link or QR code from the Access module: everyone reads on their own phone or computer, each in their own language.
  2. To show them on a screen instead, use the Output module.
5

Avoid double captions

  1. If the remote speakers also play over the room speakers, give the microphone a mix-minus, or the same words are captioned twice.
  2. Do a test call before the event.

After the event: an AI summary

When the event ends, you can ask for an AI summary of the day. You can open it for 30 days. After that it is deleted automatically.
